The ride begins in the suburbs south of San Francisco and we work our way south towards Silicon Valley. In San Jose, we begin the first big challenge of the ride: Mt Hamilton. It is a long climb of about 20 miles and 4000 ft, but it’s never too steep.
We then descend into the San Antonio Valley toward The Junction Cafe for a quick bite to eat.
Then it’s onto the beautiful Mines Road which (after a few short climbs) gently descends into Livermore.
The ride flattens out as we work our way through Danville, Alamo, and Walnut Creek where there are many options for lunch.
We cross over the Delta into Benicia and head north, alternating between open rolling hills and small suburbs.
After the aptly named Pleasants Valley Road, we head east for our first opportunity for overnight rest in Davis.
Riders may choose to sleep here, as there are no 24 hour services between Davis and Calistoga.
